The data from the WENSS project are divided into several source lists.
First there is a division between the 92 and the 49 cm data. Since the
92 cm observations are done for the whole sky above degrees
declination this is our major source list. The first part which will
become available is the so called Mini-Survey area. This region is
made from 4 to 5 mosaics between
and
. This region is chosen because it has a nice
overlap with the 6C and 7C catalogues and also with ROSAT data. One of
the reasons why we have defined the Mini-Survey area is to test our
source extraction software and correlation with other catalogues.
The 92 cm data will be reduced at two different resolutions. The high resolution maps (54'' resolution) will be used as our ``reference catalogue'' and the low resolution maps (4' resolution) will be used to find large scale structures. In Leiden the high resolution maps will be convolved to an intermediate resolution (2.5' resolution).
Also the 49 cm data will be available in three different resolutions. The high resolution maps (29'' resolution) is the ``reference catalogue'' and the convolved intermediate resolution (54'' resolution) will be used to match the 92 cm data.
The catalogue contains for each source the peak flux and integrated flux density, the position of the peak of the source, the major and minor axis of the fitted gaussian profile and the position angle, an error estimate of these values, the noise level of the map, and the deconvolved sizes of the source. Almost all of the parameters come from the SAD routine, implemented in AIPS.
For obvious reasons the (primary) catalogue is not included in this document.
