Infrared and Optical Imaging

The infrared observations were made with IRCAM (McLean, 1988) at UKIRT and the IR Imager at Kitt Peak .

The observational rastering technique used is described in Chambers et al. 1990, and the flux-calibration was relative to the Elias et al. (1982) standard stars. The infrared and optical images were reduced using the NOAO IRAF software package.

The broad band optical images were taken with the standard KPNO "nearly Mould" filters and calibrated with observations of the Christian et al. (1985) standard fields. For those objects for which an appropriate interference filter was available, we also obtained narrow band images of the redshifted Lyman alpha emission. The interference filters had bandpasses of 60 Åand were flux-calibrated relative to the KPNO IDS spectrophotometric standard stars.
